FAQ - Frequently asked questions about USA shipping
Answers about
your package delivery
Are you planning to export to the United States? Here you will find concise answers to the most important questions about customs, transit times and shipping costs — so that your US business starts smoothly.
What has changed since August 29, 2025 when it comes to shipping to the USA?
Since August 29, 2025, the de minimis exemption of 800 USD has been abolished. This means that every shipment to the USA is subject to duty, regardless of whether it is worth $20 or 2,000 USD. In addition, there is now a minimum tariff of 15% for most products. Products with higher regular duty rates — such as 16-37% clothing — stick to these higher rates. In addition, there is the so-called Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF), which is at least 32.71 USD per customs declaration.
Why is shipping via traditional postal services no longer economical?
The USA distinguishes between postal customs and ad valorem customs:
For postal customs, there is a flat fee of at least 80 USD per package. This makes small shipments disproportionately expensive.
For Ad Valorem customs clearance, the fee is calculated as a percentage: 0.3464% of the value of the goods, at least 32.71 USD per import declaration.
Because postal costs are so high, 88 postal services worldwide have already stopped shipping to the USA.
What solution does Pakajo offer for retailers?
Pakajo bundles the shipments of many retailers into one collective shipment and carries out collective customs clearance. As a result, the MPF is not calculated per package, but only once or as a percentage of the total shipment. After customs clearance in the USA, the parcels are handed over to national delivery services and delivered reliably to end customers. With the new US Post and US Parcel products, pakajo offers transparent tariffs, insured and trackable shipments — starting at less than €10 per package.
