Customs content declaration

For international shipping outside the EU, a customs declaration is of great importance. This statement informs customs officials of the content and value of your package. The information in the customs content declaration is used to calculate the country-specific import sales taxes and duties, which must then be paid by the recipient.

In order to make customs processing smooth, it is important to fill out the corresponding CN 23 customs declaration for parcel shipping outside the EU. Attach the document clearly visible to the outside of your package in a shipping bag. However, when sending by post, the CN 22 customs declaration must be used. In any case, the customs declaration for shipping to Niger should be on the address page of your shipment.

The import sales tax, known as Taxe sur la Valeur Ajoutée (TVA) in Niger, is currently 19 percent and is calculated on the total value of the shipment, including the value of the goods, shipping costs and any customs duties. Customs clearance requires a complete commercial invoice, which clearly shows the content, value of the goods and the intended use of the goods. Incomplete or inaccurate information may result in delays in processing.

Gift shipments to private individuals are generally also subject to customs duties. Smaller gifts with a low value of goods can be imported duty-free, provided that they are clearly marked as gifts, there is no commercial intent and the value does not exceed an exemption limit set by customs. This exemption limit is usually around 50 to 100 US dollars. If it is exceeded or if there are several similar articles, customs may collect both duties and import sales tax. The customs declaration should therefore state the word “poison” and the actual value of the goods.
